Roost Austin 2015 has been cancelled. Attendees will receive a full refund. More information is available on our blog.
At Roost, you'll explore core web-development principles and best-practices while seeing them in action at Roost, with guidance from the experts at Bocoup.
Through a single-track series of subject-specific intensive talks, you'll build a production-ready instagram-clone called "Roostagram" using real-world workflows and tools.
Say goodbye to 500 line HTML files. Through layouts, templates, and partials, we'll build a modular, reusable, resource based view system that will make markup a joy to work with.
Automate it! From testing to CSS pre-processor compilation, to linting, to minification, to livereload, we'll help you get your project to work for you by automating tasks.
Do you want CSS to do more for you? Stylus brings programmatic elements like variables and mixins to that ornery language a lot of us love to hate.
Learn what the big deal is behind MV* frameworks and then learn how to implement them using the Backbone framework. We'll separate our concerns by 'getting our truth out of the DOM' and into testable models, taking what would be a tangled mess and organizing it into a well designed application.
We all know we should be testing our code- but what should we test? when should we write tests? and how should we implement them? We'll walk you through both a unit testing and integration testing workflow to help you navigate these questions and more.
Overall, it was great for me. I did enjoy seeing the possibilities and most of all was inspired. I have a high level overview and have some starting points to begin with. Thank you for a great time!
Really enjoyed this conference, learned so much. Really liked that each slide was matched with a github commit. Looking forward to trying out all the stuff mentioned in the conference.
It was both overwhelming and inspiring to learn just how far behind our organization is on web technology. Loved it. The grunt project you set up is like a dream development environment.
Had a great time. Had my face melted repeatedly. Great job overall! Can't wait to implement ALL THE THINGS into my company's dev workflow.
Great group of presenters. I can't tell you how many conferences I have been to where there was some part of the conference I was not interested in. Roost Chicago was the first conference where my attention was never somewhere else. I like that the presentation slides were available at the time of the conference, so it was easier to follow along with the presenter on your computer.
The conference's description was on point. You somehow balanced the line between having a base understanding of development, knowing things could be better, and having a general awareness of other tools.
